One of the fantastic cities in Egypt that many people don’t know anything about it.
Al- Quseir, it is considered as one of the most strategic ports of the Red Sea.It is located 85 kilometers south of Safaga and 140 kilometers south of Hurghada.
Al- Quseir was also a very strategic spot at the Ptolemaic times, it was known as the White Harbor, many civilizations during the past four thousand years have used Al- Quseir as a starting point to go exploring, expanding and trading with remote lands.
Al- Quseir was a very important spot since the ancient time because it is located at the end of the shortest route from the Nile River to the Red Sea.
At the ancient times it was also the route to transport goods to and from remote lands to Egypt and the Mediterranean.
When the Roman Emperors ruled Egypt, Al- Quseir became the main gateway to India and Hast Africa.
There are some remains still exist from the Roman times
just eight kilometers north of present Al-Quseir.
There are also some historical remains located at the wadi that links Al- Quseir with Qift on the Nile River.
There is a famous Wadi connected to the road of Al- Quseir called Wadi Hammamat, This was the site of the quarries of the bekheni stone, much appreciated in ancient times.
inscriptions are on the south side of the wadi, engraved in the ravine walls. Some are from 4.000 years ago.
At the Roman time, there was a series of watch towers and guesthouses were built at regular intervals, and some of them can still be seen nowadays.
Old buildings in Al- Quseir built in the classic French and British styles. need to be protected from being sold and demolished.
Today Al- Quseir considered as an ultimate spot in Egypt, many tourists visit it for spending relaxing holiday, doing scuba diving, sunbathing at the afternoon and visiting the precious historical places.
