Experience the timeless grandeur of Luxor Temple, one of Egypt’s most iconic monuments, located in the heart of modern Luxor on the east bank of the Nile River.
Built over 3,400 years ago, this temple stands as a living witness to Egypt’s royal ceremonies, divine celebrations, and layers of history that span from the New Kingdom to the Roman era and beyond.
Luxor Temple
Originally built by Pharaoh Amenhotep III and later expanded by Ramses II, Luxor Temple was dedicated to the Theban Triad — Amun, Mut, and Khonsu.
Unlike most temples in ancient Thebes, it wasn’t devoted to a single deity or ruler but served as the grand stage for the Opet Festival, an annual event where the gods’ statues were carried from Karnak Temple to Luxor Temple, symbolizing the renewal of the Pharaoh’s divine power.
The temple complex also holds remarkable additions from later civilizations — a Roman sanctuary, chapels built by Alexander the Great, and the Abu Haggag Mosque, still in use today — blending ancient and modern spirituality in one sacred space.
Marvel at the colossal statues of Ramses II, the towering columns, and the exquisite hieroglyphic carvings that glow beautifully at night when the temple is illuminated, creating one of Egypt’s most magical evening scenes.
